Between September 2001 and July 2002, twenty-nine specimens of Archosargus rhomboidalis (Linnaeus, 1758) from the coastal zone of Rio de Janeiro (22º 55´S, 43º 12´W), Brazil, were necropsied to study their infracommunities metazoan parasites. Twenty-four specimens (82,7%) ofA. rhomboidalis were parasitized by at least one metazoan species. Ten species of metazoan parasites were collected, a total of 305 parasites, with average of 20,3+12,5. The endoparasites infracommunities were the most abundant with 90,2% of the total of specimens collected. The digenean Podocotyle sp. was the species which showed highest values ofprevalence, abundance, frequency of dominance and mean relative dominance. Abundance of Megasolena hysterospina were negatively correlated with the host total length. Two pairs of endoparasite species, Multitestis (Multitestis) incontans Megasolena hysterospina and Podocotyle sp. Lecithochirium sp. showed positive association between their abundances. The parasite species in A. rhomboidalis showed the tipical aggregated pattern of distribution. Because the scarcity of evidences of interspecific associations, the community of A. rhomboidalis showed characteristics intermediate between the extremes of the isolationist-interactive continuum.
