Ocorrência de parasitos intestinais em Callithrix sp. (Mammalia, Primates, Callithrichidae)

Maria do Carmo, AnaAbramo Salgado, Clarice

The aim of this study was to research the human intestinal parasite presence in Callithrix sp. Two groups of Callithrix sp. were studied, one group lives in captivity in the Reproduction Biology Center (CBR) of the Federal University of Juiz de Fora, and the other lives in the wild in the municipal reserve of the Mariano Procópio Museum in Juiz de Fora MG. Fecal samples were collected with no additional conservation measures and taken to the Parasitology laboratory for processing and analyzed in accordance with the Spontaneous Sedimentation (HPJ), Baermann-Moraes and Faust Methods. In the CBR animals no presence of gastric-intestinal parasites species of any kind were confirmed. But in the municipal animal reserve, helminth larvae from Strongyloides sp. and protozoan cysts from Gardia intestinalis, Entamoeba coli and Entamoeba histolyca were found. The infections from intestinal parasites were related to the living conditions of the host, the environment where they live and, mainly, to the hygienic conditions of the water and food consumed by them.
