The Enterolobium contortisiliquum has been described as toxic to bovine causing digestive disorders, photosensitivity and abortions. This study aimed to evaluate the in vitro toxicity of ethanol extract ofEnterolobium contorttisiliquum (EEtOH-Ec) fruit and its influence on uterotrophic trial in female rats. Theethanol extract of the fruit was obtained by cold maceration, lyophilized and stored in amber glass flasks. Theexperimental design for uterotrophic trial of EEtOH-Ec consists of nine groups, composed of six immatureWistar female rats. The treatments were administered from 21st to 25th postnatal day. After five days oftreatment, the female rats were anesthetized (ketamine + xylazine) for blood sampling, then were euthanized byabout the same anesthetic dose association to collect uterus and ovaries. The uterine relative masses did notdiffer and changes were not observed in the number of ovarian structures. EEtOH-Ec showed no estrogenicaction, nor antiestrogen action in Wistar female rats.(AU)
