Regarding laboratory procedures, purified water is the most widely used substance in laboratory analyses. To ensure quality maintenance, microbiological control must be carried out at periodic and systematic intervals since it is susceptible to contamination, even after its purification. This study aimed to evaluate the microbiological quality of purified water sent by health establishments for microbiological analysis at the Central Laboratory of the State of Ceará (LACEN-CE) from January 2020 to September 2022. The methodology used was the Pharmacopeia Brasileira, 6th Edition, 2019. The results indicated that of the 334 samples of purified water analyzed, 117 (39.4%) disagreed with current legal standards, where 84 samples had high amount of heterotrophic bacteria. The other tests in disagreement were: Total coliforms research and Pseudomonas aeruginosa research. It is concluded that heterotrophic bacteria are a challenge to the quality of purified water produced in the analyzed health facilities.
