Preliminary survey of bats from the upper Mazaruni of Guyana
K. Lim, BurtonD. Engstrom, Mark
We have been documenting the species diversity of mammals in Guyana since 1990 to investigate their distribution, systematics, biogeography, ecology, and conservation. Recent work, primarily in the lowland area of Iwokrama Forest in central Guyana, has identified 24 species of bats new to the country (Lim et al. 1999, Lim & Engstrom In press). The field component of the project is to make comprehensive surveys that maximize geographic coverage and habitat types, and inventory poorly known regions.
