The goals of this study were to survey the bat fauna in two localities of the Paraná State coastal area, the Floresta Estadual do Palmito (FEP) and the Reserva Bicudinho-do-brejo (REB), located at the Paranaguá and Guaratuba municipalities, respectively. Bats were captured using mist nets set up at ground level and also manually captured inside a roost. At the FEP we had 181 capture events of 19 species, with Artibeus lituratus as the most abundant taxon, with 89 captures. At the REB we had 130 capture events of 13 species, with Artibeus obscurus and A. lituratus as the most abundant taxa, with 34 and 32 captures, respectively. The estimated richness (Chao 1) for the FEP was 26 ± 5.92 and for the REB was 17.47 ± 7.14 species. Our efforts have registered species that had few records for the area, including a recently described species. We suggest that bat surveys at Paraná State coastal region are not redundant, and are important to the better knowledge of species distribution.(AU)
